Mintage of US Half Dimes

Welcome to the main page for mintage information for US Half Dimes.  The first US half dime was the Flowing Hair.  Production was authorized by the Act of April 2, 1792.  Although they were not struck until February 1795, some were dated 1794.  Over the life of the half dime, the weight has changed twice from the original weight.  The original weight of the first dimes was 20.8 grains with a fineness of .8924.  The Act of January 18, 1837 reduced the weight to 20.625 grains and changed the fineness to .900 and finally, the Act of February 21, 1853 changed the weight to 19.2 grains.
