The Jefferson nickel has been around for quite some time.  It was first struck minted in 1938 when it replaced the Buffalo nickel. The obverse design changed in 2006 and has a forward-facing portrayal of early US President Thomas Jefferson by Jamie Franki. The coin's reverse is still the original by Felix Schlag, except in 2004 and 2005 when coin had commemorative designs.
